CMDB Certification - Configuration Management DataBase

The Configuration Management DataBase is a crucial underpinning source of information for an organization’s IT infrastructure, supporting the entire Service Lifecycle in an ITIL® context. Without it, understanding, tracking and controlling the key elements of the organization’s services and infrastructure can quickly become an exercise in futility.

Understanding the terminology, concepts and best practices associated with the CMDB as expressed in ITIL is the key to its successful implementation and maintenance.

The CMDB complementary certification is designed to provide a comprehensive insight into the concepts underlying the Service Asset and Configuration Management process, as well as related concepts in other processes across the Service Lifecycle.

CMDB has been recommended by IQC, an independent subgroup of the itSMFI. It is a 'foundation plus' certification based on Blooms Taxonomy levels 2-4.

CMDB is an APMG-International certification. Any training company wishing to offer the certification must be accredited by APMG-International.

Benefits for Organizations

  • Enable seamless integration between support and operations processes.
  • Specify, control and track configuration items and any changes made to them using a systematic method.
  • Maintain data accuracy in changing IT environments through audits and reviews of data.
  • Automate the discovery and maintenance of IT data and ensure changes can only be made by authorized personnel.
  • Organize and standardize applications in a definitive software library to make deployments more precise and discovery more accurate.

The exam has been called 'foundation plus' as it is a multiple choice exam based on the Blooms Taxonomy levels 2-4. This means it has a higher difficulty level than a standard Foundation exam, but is not as challenging as an Intermediate-level exam.
